Review: In my day job, I teach intellectual property classes and write law review articles. Just finished up a draft of an article on User-Generated Content, which I hope to release (in beta) soon. What is so fascinating -- yet difficult to follow -- about UGC is that there are so many different niches and genres budding, and they just keep sprouting by the day. Here's another one: making videos of your video game playing, such as on the tremendously popular Guitar Hero. WeGame is a website hoping to be the "YouTube of gaming videos."
So far, the most popular vids have only generated less than 200,000 views, which is modest by YouTube standards. There are probably some copyright issues/licenses that need to be worked out, I'm guessing. The gaming community typically is quite permissive with re-uses of their copyrighted games, but the music industry is less so. I have no idea what deals WeGame or others have already secured. The video below looks like a parody and therefore arguably fair use.
