News: Microsoft announced a licensing deal with Adobe to bring Flash lite to the mobile phone/PDA market using Windows Mobile. The benefit of Flash functionality is that most videos on the Internet are in Flash format. (More)
Analysis: Steve Jobs of Apple recently disparaged Flash lite as not suitable for the iPhone. Whether that's a negotiating play is not clear. It's interesting that Microsoft has stepped in with a deal. It could put pressure on Apple to do something about the iPhone, which can only play YouTube videos that have been converted into Apple's special format.
There are 2 things that have kept me from buying the iPhone: it has no video camera, and it doesn't have Flash. The phone looks cool, but it skimps out on the video functionality. The YouTube videos are great, but YouTube is not the only game in town.
Sounds like the advice of industry folks. While it's no doubt true you want to put your best foot forward in your first album, there's also the need to strike while the iron is hot. The challenge for the artists discovered on YouTube -- Mia Rose is another that comes to mind -- is the huge lag time between being discovered and putting out the album.
